London Photography Classes Can Teach You to Capture the Beauty of the World Around Us

All of us have moments of our lives that will stick in our minds forever, or people that we will never forget. Unfortunately, memories that seemed as clear as water a couple of years after the event will begin to fade over time. One of my biggest regrets is that I didn’t take more photos when I was younger, especially on holidays that have now lost their clarity and become confused with other memories. A photograph can speak volumes about a moment in time that will bring back all the fond feelings and emotions you felt in that split second.

The problem with cameras is that they’re subject to our sudden enthusiasm and phases of excitement about photography. As soon as they’ve booked a holiday, there are so many people who rush out and buy the fanciest camera they can find with a lens that could capture a fly sneezing two hundred yards away and so many fancy tricks to it that it could pass the Turing test. However, if they remember to pack it at all, it’s only used for a few blurry pictures in the darkness over dinner and a white photograph of the beach where the suns glare has ruined the picture. Even basic photography classes can teach you to avoid these mistakes and might give you a passion for photography that you never expected.

Why Take Photography Lessons?

Taking the perfect picture involves precision, imagination, a good eye for a shot and the skill to use a camera to the best of its ability. It’s a common misconception that taking a great photograph is easy, but your surroundings are only your tools – it relies on your creativity to create something beautifully, just like any other artistic discipline. The London School of Photography will teach you how to spot the perfect picture and then how to use your camera to take your image from reality to paper.

If you’re interested in entering into the world of photography in a professional capacity, it might be worth looking into courses that are specifically aimed at the type of photography you’re interested in. Better still, try them all and see which you like best! Studio Time offer professional photography classes in north east London, teaching you the tricks of the trade for portraits, fashion, events and even lingerie shoots. It will take a different approach depending on your subject matter and who your photos are aimed at, so it’s important not to underestimate the skills you will need for a career in photography.

Back to the Old School

Now that we’ve entered the digital age it can seem as though solid substances like film and tape are things of the past – long lost relics that have been discarded for greener pastures. However, in the world of photography you can never truly call yourself a photographer unless you know the ins and outs of film and you’ve smelt the scent of a dark room as you carefully developed your photos. Traditional developing a dark room can be an art in itself, and courses such as those provided by Zoom In also offer dark rooms that are on the premises and available to book. This could be a motive in itself to sign up to a photography class, because there are very few of us who live with someone generous enough to allow us to allocate an entire room of the house to complete darkness for developing pictures.

Zoom Ins extensive facilities not only include a dark room available for hire, but a digital imaging suite for those who prefer to work by computer and a gallery for members creations that is in construction right now. Their studios are in Kennington in south London and they offer a wealth of courses from beginner to advanced and such specialties such as digital SLR photography.

Whatever your subject or your goal, becoming a photographer professionally or for your private enjoyment is a challenging but fulfilling past time. It’s as much of an art as painting and as technical as cooking the perfect meal, so shouldn’t be undervalued!
